Georgia Force News Release
ATLANTA, GA. â Force Owner Virgil Williams and Force Advisory Board Chairman and current University of Georgia Athletic Director Vince Dooley announced today that the Force will be adding "V Stripes" to the team's helmet for the Force's first two home games. The Force's new all black helmets, which were unveiled last week at a press conference by Governor Sonny Perdue, will sport red and gold "V Stripes" running down the middle of the helmet.
The "V Stripes" are a symbolic gesture by the team in support of UGA and Georgia Tech. In addition, the "V Stripes" will represent the two strongest influences in the Force organization, Virgil Williams and Vince Dooley, as well as the Force's ultimate goal- Victory.
Per the AFL's league office, the Force will be permitted the wear the "V Stripes" on their helmets for the first two home games on Sunday, February 8th vs. New York when the team honors the football legends of UGA and Sunday, February 22nd when the Force host New Orleans and pay tribute to the football legends of Georgia Tech. Both tributes will take place at halftime of the games and feature former players from the 1980 UGA National Championship team and Georgia Tech's 1990 National Championship team respectively.
"I like the colors of the Georgia Force, especially the black, one of the two dearest colors to me but I told Virgil what it needed was a touch of red," said Dooley. "As my first official move with the Force, I wanted to place what we call âV Stripes' on the helmet. Red representing UGA and gold for Georgia Tech. This would be our way to honor the two great football heritages of each school. "
Williams went on to explain, "The âV Stripes' that don our new black helmets are our way of showcasing our affection and support for the two rich football traditions in this state. As an alumni of Georgia Tech, I could not have Vince adding his touch of red without a bit of gold for the Yellow Jackets."
The Georgia Force will open their third season of play in the AFL when they kickoff the 2004 season on Sunday, February 8th at 3:00 p.m. against the New York Dragons in the Arena at Gwinnett Center. This season, the Force will look to build on their record eight wins and second round playoff appearance in 2003. A network-TV sport, the AFL will celebrate its 2nd season on NBC in 2004. Season tickets and flex packs are on sale and can be purchased with a credit card by calling (770) 813-7610 or visit www.georgiaforce.com.
