VooDoo to offer discounted game tickets to families of armed services personnel
February 3, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New Orleans VooDoo News Release
To continue to show the New Orleans VooDoo's support for the men and women serving in the armed forces at home and overseas, the team is offering a specially discounted ticket for all armed forces personnel and their families to any VooDoo game in the 2004 season.
The team is offering a game ticket for a price of $5 in sections 327 and 328 of the New Orleans Arena. The individual game ticket in these sections is regularly priced at $12.
"We respect the hardships that the men and women of our armed forces go through to defend our country," said VooDoo Executive Director Mike Feder. "With this program, we are happy to be able to provide our support and the opportunity to enjoy the VooDoo and Arena Football during our inaugural season."
This program is part of a league wide program for the Arena Football League, who has the U.S. Army as one of its principal sponsors, to provide discounted tickets to armed forces personnel and their families at most AFL arenas.
"This remains a challenging time for our country and we are thankful for the men and women of our armed forces," said Commissioner David Baker. "We are pleased to be able to offer this promotion, which in some small way, may provide a measure of support for the families of our servicemen and women during an otherwise stressful time."
These discounted tickets can be purchased at the New Orleans Saints ticket offices at the Louisiana Superdome or on 5800 Airline Drive in Metairie. They can also be purchased by contacting New Orleans VooDoo Military Program Coordinator Murphy Dore at dorem@saints.nfl.com. In order to take advantage of the offer, armed forces personnel, their spouse or their dependents will be asked to present a military ID at the ticket office to receive the tickets. For further information please call the New Orleans Saints ticket office at (504) 731-1700.
The VooDoo open up their inaugural season on Sunday, February 8, at the expansion Philadelphia Soul. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and will be televised on NBC (WDSU-6 in New Orleans). The game can also be heard on WWL 870 AM. Chris Kenyon will handle play by play and New Orleans Saints and VooDoo Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis will serve as color analyst for the opener. Various Saints coaches, front office executives and players will rotate as radio color analysts throughout the season.
Often recognized as one of the nation's most affordable and fan-friendly sports leagues, the Arena Football League, the second-longest running football league in U.S. history, will begin its 18th season in February 2004. On the strength of its Mission Statement and Fans' Bill of Rights, the AFL is America's fastest growing sport.
