Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers got a little help from Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Craig Gentry in their 5-4 walk-off win over the Modesto Nuts on Saturday. Gentry, who is with the 66ers on a MLB injury rehab (back) assignment, delivered a RBI single in the seventh to tie the contest 4-4 and then drilled a game-winning RBI single with one out in the ninth to give the Sixers their second straight win over Modesto.

The Nuts (17-25) trailed the 66ers 2-1 through four innings but tied the game in the fifth against IE starter Justin Anderson when Dom Nunez' RBI ground-out made it 2-2. The Nuts made it a 3-2 lead when Modesto LF Max White launched a solo shot over the wall in right center versus IE reliever Keynan Middleton in the sixth. The homer was White's fourth of the year. The Colorado-affiliated Nuts then made it 4-2 in the top of the seventh when Omar Carrizales doubled to open the inning for his third hit in the game. He later scored on a wild pitch.

The Sixers started their comeback in the bottom of the seventh when Michael Strentz walked with one out and moved to third on Zach Houchins single. Strentz scored on Zach Welz single to make it 4-3. After Tim Arakawa walked to load the bases, Gentry legged out an infield single to shortstop and drove in Houchins to tie the game 4-4. After Jordan Piche and Eduardo Paredes tossed a perfect eighth and ninth innings respectively, the 66ers came to bat in the bottom of the ninth.

With one out, Welz beat out and infield hit. He moved to second on Arakawa's crisp single to right. That set the stage for Gentry. The Dallas, TX native ripped reliever Collin Wellman's (1-2) offering into left and Welz outran leftfielder White's accurate throw to the plate to give the Sixers their second walk-off win of the year. Gentry, Arakawa and Welz all had two-hit games for Inland Empire. Paredes (1-2) earned the win for the 66ers (13-30) who improved to 10-6 against the Cal League's Northern Division.
