
James Strong But Bats Blanked In Desert

ADELANTO, Calif. - Josh James took a shutout into the sixth inning and ultimately allowed just one run but the JetHawks were blanked, 6-0, by the High Desert Mavericks on Sunday afternoon at Heritage Field.
Both starters were sharp in the contest and the teams went into the sixth inning in a scoreless tie. Scott Heineman led off the last of the sixth with a solo home run to give the Mavericks (28-16) a lead they would not relinquish.
James (3-2) allowed the one run on just two hits with four strikeouts and three walks. He didn't allow a hit until a Josh Morgan single with two outs in the fourth inning. The right-hander has now allowed just three earned runs over his last 22.2 innings pitched.
High Desert starter Ariel Jurado (4-1) tossed seven shutout innings and struck out nine to pick up the victory. The 20-year-old allowed only two hits and walked two.
Yeyfry Del Rosario came on in relief of James in the sixth inning and finished out the game for the JetHawks. High Desert broke the game open with five runs on six hits against the reliever in the eighth inning.
Bryan Muniz singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Bobby Boyd went hitless to end his nine-game streak and Kristian Trompiz finished 0-for-3 to end his streak at eight.
Lancaster (19-22) managed only two hits in the game, a season-low, and was shutout for the first time in 2016.
The series concludes on Monday night at Heritage Field with the JetHawks send Trent Thornton (1-1) to the mound against Collin Wiles (1-3). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
