Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, On - The Generals were back to their winning ways Friday night in Oshawa, they beat Belleville 5-1 before a crowd of 3,506 at the General Motors Centre. Captain Boone Jenner had a three point night while Scott Sabourin and Josh Graves each had multi-point games in the win. Dan Altshuller made 28 saves on the road to victory.
The Generals welcomed forwards Mark Petaccio and Scott Sabourin back into the line-up, and Sabourin had an impact on the scoreboard right away. Sabourin pressed with line-mates Boone Jennner and Josh Graves to create a turnover in the offensive zone. Jenner pounced on the puck at the dots and fired a wrist shot right past Belleville's goaltender, John Chartrand. Oshawa led 1-0.
Jenner was on a mission all period long winning face-offs, killing penalties and generating the offensive spark needed to win. The Captain almost had his second of the night breaking in all alone on the penalty kill. Jenner ripped a slap-shot, but Chartrand got his shoulder in front of it keeping his team in the game.
Late in the frame, Jenner did score his second of the game and his team leading 9th goal of the season pounding the puck past Chartrand on a mad scramble. Josh Graves also scored for the Gens mid-period deflecting a wicked point shot from Jimmy McDowell and Colin Suellentrop.
Oshawa starting goaltender, Dan Altshuller, looked solid in between the pipes stopping all 8 shots that he faced, and at the end of 1, Oshawa was clearly in the driver's seat leading 3-0.
The second period was a chippy and gritty affair that saw Oshawa maintain their 3-0 cushion. Nick Quinn set the tone by filling in Belleville's Mack Lemmon with a huge hit early on in the frame. Sebastian Uvira continued Oshawa's physical dominance with a bone crushing check on Belleville's Michael Curtis. Altshuller looked sharp again making a glove save on Stephen Silas that would have made Patrick Roy green with envy. Oshawa outshot Belleville 22-15 through the first two periods of play and took their three goal spread into the third.
Oshawa's offensive onslaught resumed at 2:19 of the third when Cody Payne deflected a Chris Carlisle point shot past Charlie Graham: Graham came on in relief of Chartrand in the second period. The landslide continued as Emerson Clark scored his third goal in three games, a beautiful backhand past Graham after he completely deked through the Bulls' last defenseman.
Bulls' forward, Austen Brassard, spoiled Altshuller's bid for a shutout when he beat the Oshawa goaltender from close range unassisted at 17:24 of the third period. This small moral victory was completely forgotten two minutes later as the crowd counted down the final seconds of the 5-1 win.
The Generals outshot the Bulls 35-29 and received all three game star selections; Jenner was the first, Altshuller was the second and Graves was the third.
The Generals are right back at it tomorrow night taking on the Attack in Owen Sound. The game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham. Puck drops at 7:30 PM.
Oshawa's next home game is this Sunday October 30th vs. Mississauga at the General Motors Centre. Start time is 6:05 PM.
