Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw Spirit fans piled into The Dow Event Center to attend tonight's Solar Night sponsored by Dow Corning. The Spirit scored 6 goals in the win against the Kingston Frontenacs.
Winger Garret Ross was the first to score on Frontenacs' goaltender Igor Bobkov, scoring at the 9:01 mark. His shot was assisted by teammates Brandon Saad and Jamie Oleksiak. Just over a minute later Ross scored his second goal; assisted by Vince Trocheck and again Saad. With 3 minutes left in the first, Frontenacs' Trevor Morbeck snuck his first goal of the season past Spirit goalie Tadeas Galansky. The Spirit responded immediately with a goal from Anthony Camara, right out in front of the net, with assists from Justin Kea and Vladim Khlopotov. We left the first period with the Spirit leading 3-1.
Frontenac blueliner Michael Moffat gets a quick shot into the Spirit net, making the score 3-2. Almost halfway into the second, the Spirit refused to give up their lead. Ross and Camara assisted center Vince Trocheck on the team's fourth goal of the game. Then, shorthanded Brandon Saad netted his 9th goal of the season to raise the Spirit lead to 5-2.
With back to back goals in the third, Cody Alcock of Kingston tried to catch up to the Spirit. With just 4:28 left to go, Derek Froats tied the game 5-5 which would force overtime. With just 21.5 second remaining in the overtime period, Vince Trocheck deflected a shot by John McFarland under Blake Richard's pads for the game winning goal.
Galansky stopped 41 shots on goal, while both Frontenacs' goalies Bobkov and Blake Richard saved 33.
