Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - The Generals completed their weekend with a home-ice victory on Sunday night; they beat the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 4-2 before a crowd of 4,676 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. The power-play provided 2 while Daniel Altshuller made 33 saves, matching the number on the back of his jersey. Oshawa's penalty-kill was also key, killing off a critical 5-on-3 in the third, preserving a 1-goal edge.
The first was a fast-paced, tightly-contested period that saw Oshawa outshoot Sault Ste. Marie, 14-10, on their way to a 1-0 lead.
Daniel Altshuller manned the cage for the Generals and looked strong, turning aside a Sergey Tolchinsky deflection as well as a Ryan Sproul laser late in the frame.
The Generals cracked the scoreboard at 12:32 thanks to their 6th ranked power play and the finishing touch of Michael Dal Colle. Oshawa employed quick puck movement in tight, before Dal Colle buried a bouncing disc past Hounds' goaltender, Matt Murray, for his 12th of the season.
The teams each scored a pair of goals in the middle frame, sending Oshawa into the third with their slim edge intact, 3-2.
The Greyhounds pulled even with a power-play marker at 4:08, fired by Brandon Alderson. Scoring his 23rd of the season, the winger stormed the net, found the loose puck, and knotted the game at 1.
Oshawa reclaimed the lead at 11:34 on just their 2nd shot of the period. Brian Hughes provided the deflection, going five-hole on Murray for his 7th, putting the Generals back on top, 2-1.
Colin Suellentrop provided more breathing room, capitalizing on the power play at 14:11. Crushing a shot from the left point, Suellentrop beat Murray cleanly for his 4th of the season, giving the Generals a 2-goal advantage.
Down 3-1, the Greyhounds narrowed the gap at 18:47. Sprung in on a break, Nick Cousins ripped a low, hard bullet past Altshuller for his 21st of the season, cutting the deficit to 1.
The Greyhounds had a golden opportunity to tie it early in the third, working an extended 2-man-advantage beginning at 6:50. Fortunately, Oshawa's penalty-kill met the challenge by eliminating passing lanes and minimizing shot selection.
Altshuller completed a brilliant night between the pipes, making a handful of critical pad-saves late in the game.
Boone Jenner hit the empty net at 18:56, securing victory and scoring his 34th in the process.
Michael Dal Colle and Daniel Altshuller took home the first and second star selections.
The Greyhounds edged out Oshawa on the shot clock, 35-31.
Oshawa begins a 2-game road-trip this Friday February 15th when they head to Saginaw to take on the Spirit at 7:11 PM.
The Generals return home on Family Day, Monday February 18th, to battle the Sudbury Wolves at the General Motors Centre in a matinee game. Puck drops at 2:05 PM. Bring the whole family and cheer on the home team!
