Flint Generals News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - Chad Alban's return to the Flint Generals and his first start in Kalamazoo in almost three years was a successful. Jordan Fox scored two third period goals as the Gens nipped the Kalamazoo Wings 3-2 to pull into sole possession of third place in the Turner Cup Playoff Race.
Chad Alban was solid in net turning aside 29 of 31 shots he faced. The Generals trailed 2-0 but got off the matt with three straight to win the game.
Alban made his first start in Kalamazoo since 2005 and his first start in a Generals uniform since December 14. He looked sharp early on making some good saves. His lone blemish was a power play goal that Kalamazoo scored midway through the first period.
The Generals controlled much of the play and had some great chances including several odd man rushes. Jared Dumba had two shots, while Justin DePretis missed on the power play.
In the second period, the Gens failed to score on a five on three early and that seem to turn the tide allowing Kalamazoo to control the momentum. It was the Wings who would score to make it 2-0 on their second power play goal. But the Gens got just their second power play goal in their last seven road games when John DiPace banged home the puck in front of the net on his fourth opportunity and it was 2-1. Brock Wilson and Josef Fojtik earned assists on the goal.
The Gens came out flying in the third period and Jordan Fox's first goal was scored on a shot that went off of goaltender Reyneart and hit the cross bar and went in the net. Flint notched the go ahead goal on the power play when Nick Tuzzolino's shot from the point hit several legs and sticks in front and went off of Fox and in to make it 3-2, Down the stretch the Generals defense was outstanding not letting Kalamazoo get a sniff to tie the game up.
The Generals return to action tomorrow night at 7:30 pm when they host the Bloomington Prairie Thunder at 7:30 pm. Darren McCarty will be at the game to drop the ceremonial puck and sign autographs prior to the game. The IHL Turner Cup and Huber Trophies will be in attendance for fans to see. Goodrich high school wrestling team will also be honored during the game. Tickets available at the Ticketmaster Box Office or on line at www.flintgenerals.com or by calling 744-0580
