Fort Wayne keeps PrairieThunder at bay

P.C. Drouin's goal with 2:59 remaining in the third period gave the Fort Wayne Komets a 4-3 International Hockey League victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder before 2,827 people Friday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.

The league-leading Komets have now won 19 straight games in regulation to move its record to 51-12-5-2. The loss dropped the PrairieThunder to 28-37-3-4 and eliminated the team from playoff consideration. Bloomington plays at Flint on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The PrairieThunder fell behind 2-0 in the first period as Evgeny Saidachev scored a power play goal and Konstantin Shafranov added an even-strength goal.

Bloomington battled back to take a 3-2 lead on two goals by Brett Holmberg and one from Kyle McCullough on a power play. Assists went to Blake Stewart and John Nail on McCullough's goal, while Jon Booras and Jeremy Cornisj had assists on Holmberg's two goals.

Justin Hodgeman tied the game for Fort Wayne with 4:14 remaining in the second period on a power play to set the stage for Drouin's game-winner. Terry Marchant scored an empty-net goal to complete the scoring for the Komets.
