Waterloo, Iowa - An enthusiastic auction for the Waterloo Black Hawks' special University of Northern Iowa-themed jerseys on Saturday netted $11,017 for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, the Hawks announced Wednesday.

The first-of-their-kind purple and gold jerseys were sponsored by Tyson Fresh Meats. The three-cornered partnership between the company, the university, and the team was a hearty success with Cedar Valley sports fans; a sellout crowd of over 3,000 attended Saturday's Panther Night at Young Arena. The postgame jersey bidding turned out to be the Black Hawks' most successful charitable fundraiser of the 2015/16 season.

"Let me reiterate how proud we are to have first-class partners like the University of Northern Iowa and Tyson Fresh Meats," noted Joe Greene, the Hawks' vice president of sales and marketing. "Thanks to UNI, Tyson, and the greatest fans in hockey, this year we will be able to present a check to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank which is more than twice as large as last year."

Founded in 1981, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank has been serving the needs of food-insecure families for more than three decades. Residents of 16 counties count on the food bank as a resource to help them meet basic needs. In addition to food pantry services, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank offers several programs to alleviate the nutritional needs of children, seniors, and other vulnerable populations. The Black Hawks will be back in their more familiar colors Saturday evening for a game against the Sioux City Musketeers. Fans are invited to take advantage of the Hawks' Subway Family Four Pack, including four white zone tickets, four Subway 6" combo vouchers, four chuck-a-pucks, and two One-Timer game programs for $49.
