
Three Lumberjacks Alumni Sign Professional Hockey Contracts

MUSKEGON, MI - Three Muskegon Lumberjacks alumni have officially signed their first professional hockey contracts, with two players making their professional debuts this past weekend. Michael Brodzinski, Nick Seeler, and Travis Walsh all have taken the next step following their college hockey careers, to begin playing professionally.
Michael Brodzinski, a defenseman who spent three seasons with the University of Minnesota, signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks that will begin in the 2016-2017 season. Brodzinski was a 5th round pick by the Sharks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Following the Gophers defeat in the Big Ten Championship game, Brodzinski reported to the San Jose Sharks affiliate team in the American Hockey League, the San Jose Barracuda, and made his professional debut against the San Diego Gulls last Saturday, March 26th, helping the team to a 3-0 win. Brodzinski played for the Muskegon Lumberjacks from 2011 to 2013, totaling 16 goals and 18 assists in 64 games. In three seasons with the Golden Gophers, Brodzinski registered 18 goals and 30 assists in 97 games.
Nick Seeler is another Lumberjacks defenseman who signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild this past Saturday. Seeler spent this past season with the University of Minnesota, totaling 10 assists in 36 games. Before transferring to Minnesota, Seeler spent two seasons with University of Nebraska-Omaha recording six goals and 13 assists 70 games. Seeler spent part of the 2012-2013 USHL season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks scoring two goals and collecting 13 assists in 32 games. Seeler was a 5th round pick by the Wild in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Travis Walsh, a defenseman who spent four seasons with the Michigan State Spartans, recently made his professional debut in the East Coast Hockey League for the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday, March 26th against the Allen Americans. In four seasons with the Spartans, Walsh scored three goals and registered 45 assists in 141 games. Walsh spent three seasons in the USHL, including two with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Walsh was a part of the inaugural USHL season for the Lumberjacks in 2010-2011, as well as the second season from 2011-2012. He played in 112 games for the Lumberjacks, netting five goals and notching 31 assists.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (25-23-7) return to action tomorrow against the United States National Team Developmental U18 Program (21-28-6) in Plymouth, Michigan, to kick off their final five game road trip of the season.
