Generals Weekly Notes

January 25, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) - Flint Generals News Release

ON THE RECORD: The Generals only had done game last weekend, and it was a rematch between them and Bloomington. The game was surrounded by a lot of hype due to the happenings during the game Sunday, Jan. 17th in Bloomington that resulted in a line-brawl early in the third period.

PARTY AT PERANI: Friday night's game against Bloomington did not end the way the Generals had hoped but on the plus side, the players played a great game in front of the largest crowd of the season at Perani. Almost 3,200 fans turned out for the rematch that had the city buzzing.

NEW FACES: The Gens have brought in quite a few new faces over the past four days, but the coaching staff only had long term intentions for the two most recent additions of Dan Lapointe and Bryan Nathe. Three big physical players were brought in for Friday's game against Bloomington to help fill roster spots open due to an injury plague as well as add the toughness needed.

PK UNIT: The Generals penalty killing unit has improved to 5th overall at 78.5 %. At home they kill 82.4% of penalties, much better than their 75% PK success rate on the road. They even scored a shorthanded breakaway goal in Friday's game (Alec Kirschner).

STAYING POSITIVE: Starting netminder Rob Nolan has struggled as of late but no confidence has been lost in him by fans or the team, and perhaps most importantly he has not lost confidence in himself. Nolan has had an amazing season to this point despite his 8-13-2-1 record, so his little slump is nothing to fear. But if anyone can get back on track it is Nolan.

MISC.:

~Alec Kirschner has the second longest current goals streak with 2 goals in 2 games, including a shorthanded score against Bloomington Friday

~Pascal Rheaume is 9 points shy of reaching 600 total career points (regular season and post season combined)

~John Ronan's streaks of 11 straight games with a point and 7 straight games with a goal are still the longest current streaks (Ronan has been out with injury)

AROUND TOWN: Generals players will be teaching and playing floor hockey with students of the Marian Crouse Instructional Center in Flushing this Thursday. The Center provides classroom programs for students with severe cognitive and multiple impairments.

Two Generals players will also be Guest Grillers at Mongolian BBQ from 6-7 PM as part of a fundraiser being held by BD'S Mongolian.

Two players will head back to the schools Friday, speaking to an Armstrong Middle School health class about the importance of nutrition and staying in shape as professional athletes.
