
Two Players Net Hat Tricks During Week 15

ROCHESTER, MI--- Two players recorded hat tricks this past week, each earning their first hat tricks of the season. Tuesday, Bloomington's Jon Booras netted two even-strength goals and one shorthanded to help push the PrairieThunder to a 7-3 win over Quad City. Booras' shorthanded tally was the league-leading seventh shorthanded goal of the season for Bloomington. The three-goal hat trick was also the second for the PrairieThunder this season and fifth in franchise history.
Sunday, Dayton saw their first hat trick of the season after forward John Snowden scored a league-high tying four goals in the Gems 7-4 win against the Mallards. He also had an assist, giving him a total of five points on the night. Teammate Tim Hartung dished out five assists for his first five point night of the season. There have been a total of five different players to record five point nights so far this season in the IHL.
Muskegon continues their winning ways, earning four points this past week to remain on top of the IHL standings with 59 points. The Lumberjacks are currently riding a six-game winning streak, earning points in eight of their last 10 contests. -ËJacks netminder Sebastien Centomo recorded his third shutout this season, turning aside all 30 shots he faced from the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday. It was the third shutout in the last eight games for Muskegon. Centomo ties Dayton's Derek MacIntyre with the league lead in shutouts with three.
Port Huron's special teams have been stellar all season, sitting in first in both power play (23.2%) and penalty kill (88.6%). This past week alone, the Icehawks scored five of their eight total goals on special teams. Wednesday, they scored one power play goal and added two shorthanded and Saturday, they tallied two more on the man advantage, giving them a total of 41 power play goals so far this season.

Bloomington PrairieThunder (2-1-0-0)- The PrairieThunder won for the first time this season (16 games) when trailing entering the third period in 5-4 overtime victory at Flint on January 22nd . Bloomington also won its first overtime/shootout game in seven tries with the win over Flint. Jon Booras recorded the fifth hat trick in franchise history in a 7-3 triumph against Quad City on January 19th . He has scored 11 points in the last four games, which bumped him up to the team leader in points with 44 (17 goals, 27 assists). Craig Macdonald has scored at least one point in six straight games. Macdonald is currently second among the PrairieThunder in scoring with 42 points (21 goals, 21 assists). Defenseman Jason Lepine had a seven-game scoring streak snapped at Muskegon in Bloomington's 6-3 loss Saturday.
Flint Generals (0-0-1-0)- The Generals saw their largest crowd of the season turn out for Friday's contest against the Bloomington PrairieThunder with 3,189 people. Flint's penalty killing unit has improved to fifth overall at 78.5 %. At home they kill 82.4% of penalties, much better than their 75% PK success rate on the road. They scored a shorthanded breakaway goal by Alec Kirschner in Friday's game. Kirschner has the second longest current goals streak with two goals in two games, including a shorthanded score against Bloomington Friday. Pascal Rheaume is nine points shy of reaching 600 total career points (regular season and post season combined). The Generals recently acquired forward Dan Lapointe and defenseman Bryan Nathe from the Dayton Gems via trade Friday.
Fort Wayne Komets (0-1-0-0)- The Komets only had one game scheduled for week 15 of 2009-10, a 1-0 setback at Muskegon Friday night. It was Fort Wayne's first regulation loss in 10 games. Most Komet streaks were stopped by the Lumberjacks including a six-game win streak and nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-0-1). P.C. Drouin had a six-game point streak and four-game goal scoring streak snapped, Konstantin Shafranov ended a five-game point streak while Colin Chaulk and Leo Thomas had three-game point streaks stopped. Goalie Tim Haun continues with a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-0-1) and five-game win streak going into week 16 and the Komets maintain a five-game home win string.
Muskegon Lumberjacks (2-0-0-0)- On home ice this season, Muskegon is the best first and third period team in the IHL; first period outscoring the opposition 29-13 and third period 26-13. Muskegon has outscored Bloomington in the first period this season 13-2. During their current six game win streak, the -ËJacks have assembled as GAA of a thirty 1.83. Muskegon has matched Dayton for the most team shutouts at this stage of the season with four. The penalty killing unit is 19 for the last 19 with a 100% rating. Furthermore, it is 31 of 32 for a 96.9% rating. Center Todd Robinson is on an eight- game scoring streak, registering two goals and eleven assists (13 points) during that span. He is 17 points away from pro career 1,000 with 983.
Defenseman Matt Krug has recorded 11 points in his last 10 games (5 goals, 6 assists).
Port Huron Icehawks (2-0-0-0)- With wins against the Gems and Mallards, the Icehawks improved their impressive record against the league's expansion teams this season, only losing once in regulation to expansion teams this season, with a record of 11-1-0-3 against the Gems and Mallards. Goalie Larry Sterling improved his unbeaten in regulation streak to 12 games with his impressive win in Dayton Wednesday. Sterling stopped 34 of 35 shots to move into the top three in wins (14), GAA (2.39) and save percentage (0.920) among IHL goalies. Sterling has not lost in regulation since the Icehawks were shutout by Muskegon on December 4th. Daniel Tetrault played in his 600th career game on Wednesday in Dayton. He is poised to reach another milestone this week, as he is just three goals shy of 100 for his career.
Quad City Mallards (0-3-0-0)- The Mallards have suffered five straight losses and gone winless (0-5-0-1) in their last six games. The losing streak is the Flock's longest of the season; the winless streak is their second longest of the campaign. The Mallards yesterday completed a stretch of four straight road games that saw them drop each of those four contests.
Quad City has gone winless (0-4-0-1) in its last five away games. The line of Obi Aduba, Joel Gasper and Brandon Marino has been the Mallards' most productive in recent days. Aduba and Marino have both recorded two goals and three assists in their last five games; Gasper has produced two goals and three assists in just his last three games. Chris Lipsett scored just 12 seconds into yesterday's game in Dayton. That goal is the earliest scored by a Mallard this season.
Dayton Gems (1-1-0-0)- Dayton had their first visit from the Quad City Mallards on Sunday evening. The Gems shot down the Mallards 7-4. Forwards John Snowden and Tim Hartung had big nights against the Mallards, each recording a league-high tying five points each. Snowden registered the Gem's first hat trick this season, and added another, giving him four goals and one assist on the night. Hartung chipped in dishing out five assists against the Mallards. The Gems defensemen Nathan Oke and Preston Briggs are tied for first in shorthanded assists. The Gems have three of the league's highest scoring defensemen in the top 20: Phil Youngclaus (7th ), Captain Greg Labenski (12th ) and Joe Van Culin (14th ). Dayton continues to be the least penalized team with an average of 15 penalty minutes.
