Oshawa Generals News Release

Niagara, Ontario - November 3rd, 2011 - Oshawa successfully renewed their rivalry with Niagara Thursday night. The Generals won a big 2 points beating the IceDogs 5-3 before a crowd of 2,688 fans at Gatorade Garden City Complex in Niagara. Boone Jenner scored his 10th goal of the season, and Kevin Bailie made 42 saves on the road to victory. Oshawa moves back to .500 on the season with the win.

Pad saves, splits saves, blocker saves, glove saves; in the first period, Kevin Bailie made them all. Oshawa's starting goaltender was absolutely stellar in the opening frame turning away 15 of the 16 shots he faced. Under siege, Bailie didn't seem to care if it was Freddie or Dougie Hamilton - he was robbing them both! Bailie's perfect period was finally spoiled with just 17 seconds left in the frame. Steven Shipley roofed an impossible shot from the slot after a nifty drop-pass by Myles Doan.

The Generals offence also found the back of the net in the opening frame drawing first blood at 6:49. Lucas Lessio picked up the puck in the neutral zone, slipped behind Niagara's defence, and placed a beautiful backhand right through the five-hole of Mark Visentin. Chris Carlisle was credited with the assist after making an excellent pass off of the boards to clear the Generals zone. At the end of 1, the score was deadlocked, 1-1.

A combination of penalty trouble and bad luck put the Generals down 2-1 early in the second period. Ryan Strome scored a power play goal from the top of the circles that deflected past Bailie off of an Oshawa defender's stick.

Completely unfazed, the Generals tied the game at 8:45. JP Labardo scored his seventh goal of the season hammering a slap shot right by both a diving defender and Niagara's goaltender. Oshawa's offence continued to roll when Nicklas Jensen notched a power play marker with a lightning quick release from the slot at 12:09.

Scott Laughton was back in the lineup for the Generals and looked dangerous on a 2-on-1 snapping a shot from in tight that forced Visentin to make an impressive save. Kevin Bailie was strong in Oshawa's end making a dazzling coast to coast stop on Strome: the Oshawa goaltender stayed upright and took away the top left corner. After two periods of play, the Generals went to the dressing room up 3-2.

Oshawa's offensive outburst spilled over into the third period. The Gens buried their third unanswered goal on an Andy Andreoff wraparound that was too quick for the left pad of Mark Visentin.

The IceDogs restored hope to the home crowd by narrowing the score to 4-3, but Boone Jenner ended any doubt about the game's outcome at 15:29. The Oshawa Captain scored unassisted intercepting a pass before beating Visentin glove side.

Somehow, Kevin Bailie was robbed of the first star selection, but he did get the third star of the game for his outstanding performance in Oshawa's 5-3 win.

Oshawa plays the second half of back to back road games tomorrow, Friday night, in Sudbury. Start time is 7:35, and the game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham. Oshawa's next home game is this Sunday, November 6th vs. the Kitchener Rangers at the General Motors Centre. Start time is 6:05 PM.
