Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals put together another solid effort with Jan Jas leading the way in a 5-2 victory over the Bloomington Prairie Thunder on Thursday night in front of 1,061 at Perani Arena. The Generals have a two game winning streak and are 3-1-1 in their last 5 games.
Flint's Josef Foytik (14) opened the scoring at 10:11 of the first period with a shot top shelf past Prairie Thunder goaltender Scott Fankhousser for the 1-0 lead. It would stay that way until Jas (2) scored his first of 3 goals at 1:57 of the second period for a 2-0 lead. Flint would increase the lead to 3-0 as Zach Pearson scored on a deflected and redirected knuckler that found its way to the net at 11:10 of the second stanza. Bloomington scored a late goal when Jan Booris (13) connected at 19:26 to close the gap to 3-1 after 40 minutes of action.
The Generals had their lead trimmed to 3-2 midway through the third period on a goal by Bloomington's John Nail (5) at 8:46. However, a power play tally by the Generals' Jan Jas (3) at 11:37 restored a two-goal cushion at 4-2 and he completed his hat trick with an empty net goal at 19:12 for the victory.
Flint defenseman Kyle Deck and winger Justin DePretis chipped in with 2 assists each while goaltender Bill Zaniboni turned aside 29 of 31 shots for his second consecutive victory. The Generals improve their record to 9-15-1-2 for 21 points while closing in on fourth place Muskegon, trailing the Lumberjacks by only four points. Flint has played more games than any other team. That being the case, the Generals look to gain every crucial point to keep pace in the IHL standings.
The Generals are on the road in Kalamazoo on Friday night (WFNT-AM 1470 with Robert Roe at 7:10 p.m.) before returning home to host the Port Huron Icehawks on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Perani Arena Ticketmaster by calling (810) 744-0580 and on line at www.flintgenerals.com.
