FLINT, Mich. - Jan Jas scored a hat trick as the Flint Generals downed the Bloomington PrarieThunder, 5-2, before 1,071 people Thursday night in International Hockey League action at Perani Arena.

Two goals in the second period helped the Generals move their record to 9-15-1-2 (21 points), while Bloomington's record dipped to 8-14 (16 points) ahead of Friday's 7:30 p.m. game against league-leading Port Huron (14-11, 28 points) at McMoran Arena.

Jas and Zach Pearson had the second period goals for the Generals. Jas scored 1:57 into the second period off assists from Kyle Deck and Justin DePretis just as a power play opportunity ended. Pearson added the second goal on a power play with 9:50 to go. The assists went to Greg Bullock and Ryan Jorde.

Jon Booras got the PrairieThunder on the board with 34 seconds remaining in the second period off assists from Christian Ban and John Neal.

The PrairieThunder closed within 3-2 with 11:14 remaining in the third period on John Nail's goal off assists from Adam Tomkow and Neal.

Flint then added its final two goals on a power play effort from Jas with 9:23 left and Jas' empty-netter with 48 seconds left. DePetris and Deck had assists on the first goal and Steve Rymsha had the assist on the empty-netter.

Flint scored it first goal of the game for a 1-0 lead at the 9:49 mark of the first period on a goal by Josef Fjtik off assists from Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn and Martin Ondrej.

Flint goalie Bill Zaniboni stopped 29 of 31 shots to earn the win, while Bloomington's Scott Fankhouser saved 29 of 33 shots. Flint was 2 for 4 on the power play, while Bloomington was unsuccessful on two attempts.

Bloomington's Don Parsons did not score a goal, leaving him three shy of setting the record as the all-time career leader for goals scored in professional minor league hockey.. He has 675 and the record is 677 by former Flint coach Kevin Kerr.

Parsons, who is in his 17th season, also needs only two points to reach the 1,300 plateau for his career. He has 1,298 points and ranks first in goals scored and points scored among active players.

He is within 21 games of reaching the 1,000 mark in his career. He currently ranks third among active players with 979 and is 83rd on the all-time list.
