Flint Continues Great Defensive Play Earning Tough Points

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals used tough defense and great goaltending to continue their solid play last week in week 10 of the International Hockey League.

Thursday, December 11, 2008 - Fort Wayne 4 @ Flint 3

This was a great defensive battle that proved to be a very entertaining hockey game. After a scoreless first period , the teams opened up in the second period combining for 5 goals as the Generals trailed 3-2 after 40 minutes of play. In the third period, the Komets took at 2 goal lead mid-way through. Flint closed the gap back to one goal with just over 7:00 minutes to play but could not get the equalizer. Kyle Deck paced the Generals with 1 goal and 1 assist. Leo Thomas scored twice with one helper for the Komets.

Friday, December 12, 2008 - Flint 4 @ Kalamazoo 5 (SO)

The Generals allowed the first goal, scored to tie the game, took the lead on three different occasions, only to be on the short end of the scoreboard. Flint was led by John DiPace with 2 goals and 1 assist. Jan Jas chipped in with two assists. Goaltender Chad Alban stopped 42 of 46 shots to earn an all important point in the standinigs.

Saturday, December 13, 2008 - Flint 4 @ Muskegon 2

A quick start with two goals in the first 2:06 of the game and superb goaltending by the Generals Bill Zaniboni, along with another solid 60 minute team effort give the Generals their first victory of the season at Muskegon. Winger Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn scored the game-winner half way through the third period. Greg Bullock scored a power play goal late in the game to seal the victory. Zaniboni, the former Lumberjack, stopped 47 of 49 shots and made some key saves especially in the third period.

Look Ahead -

The Flint Generals host the Bloomington Prairie Thunder on Thursday, Decemeber 18, 2008 at Perani Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The Generals will travel to Kalamazoo on Friday, December 19, 2008 before returning home to host the Port Huron Icehawks on Saturday, December 20th at 7:30 p.m.
