Generals Sweep Friday Twinbill 4-3, 6-0 over Suns

JACKSON, TN - The Jackson Generals (31-36) secured themselves of a series win over the Jacksonville Suns (31-36) after sweeping Friday's doubleheader with 4-3 and 6-0 wins from The Ballpark at Jackson.

The Generals scored the final four runs of the game to comeback to beat the Suns 4-3 in game one.

Matt Anderson (W, 2-2) earned the win after allowing three runs (all earned) on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work, while striking out four Suns and walking one batter.

Stephen Kohlscheen (SV, 6) locked down his sixth save of the year after holding the Suns scoreless in the final 1.2 innings of game one, striking out three hitters while allowing just one hit.

Chipper Smith (L, 2-2) took the loss after suffering one bad inning, ultimately allowing a season-high four runs (all earned) on six hits in 5.0 innings, finishing with four walks and four strikeouts.

Greg Nappo tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth in his one inning of relief.

The Suns struck first with a two-out RBI double off the bat of Southern League All-Star Brady Shoemaker to grab a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Jacksonville continued to attack Matt Anderson with two outs in the top of the second inning, using four consecutive hits, including RBI singles from Brent Keys and Austin Nola to push the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Suns.

The Generals responded with a four-run bottom of the fourth against Chipper Smith, including a two-run homer off the bat of Jack Marder (HR, 3) to grab a 4-3 lead over the Suns in the fourth. That lead would hold as the Generals took game one by a 4-3 final.

The Suns were shutout by the Generals for the second time this series, falling 6-0 to the Generals in game two.

Victor Sanchez (W, 3-2) went the distance for the win, shutting the Suns out over all seven innings, allowing just two hits in the winning effort. The 19-year-old tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in his game two victory.

Matt Montgomery (L, 1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in three innings of work, finishing with a pair of strikeouts.

James Nygren allowed four runs (all earned) on four hits in his two innings of work, with Nick Wittgren allowing one hit in a scoreless sixth inning.

The game was scoreless until the Generals broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Jackson received a RBI single from Ketel Marte and plated a second run when Dan Paolini hit into a fielder's choice to score Marte and give the Generals a 2-0 lead after three innings.

The Generals distanced themselves with back-to-back home runs off of James Nygren in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ji-Man Choi (HR, 1) drilled a three-run homer to right to push the lead to 5-0 and then Patrick Kivlehan (HR, 3) belted a solo shot to left to give Jackson a 6-0 lead after five innings of play.

The Suns and Generals will be back at it on Saturday night, with first pitch of game four of the five-game series being set for 6:05 p.m. CT (7:05 p.m. ET). The Suns are set to throw out left-hander Justin Nicolino (2-1, 1.84) while the Generals will counter with right-hander Stephen Landazuri (3-1, 1.96).
