Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears (41-25) trimmed their magic number to one with a 6-3 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (30-37) Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. There are three games left in the first half schedule but with a BayBears win and/or a loss by the Mississippi Braves Friday night, Mobile would clinch the Southern League South Division First Half Title and earn their fifth consecutive trip to the Southern League Playoffs in September.

Pensacola scored first in the first inning when Rey Navarro hit a solo homer to right but the BayBears responded with a run of their own on a RBI single from Tom Belza in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game at 1-1.

Mobile took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Jake Lamb hit his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot to deep center. After Pensacola reclaimed the lead in top half of the fourth, the BayBears again pulled away with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Evan Marzilli drove in two runs with a two-run triple and BayBears RHP Mike Lee doubled, driving in one run and then scoring on a sacrifice fly from Lamb to put the BayBears up 6-3.

Three BayBears finished the game with multiple hits. Belza, Marzilli and Sean Jamison all recorded multiple base knocks in the contest.

Lee (4-3) earned the win on the mound. The righty allowed the runs on three hits over 6.0 innings. Only one of the three runs was earned and Lee walked and struck out four batters each.

RHP Jake Barrett entered the game in the top of the ninth inning and retired the final three Blue Wahoos batters to preserve the 6-3 BayBears win. The save was Barrett's 12th save of the season.

The BayBears continue their final home series before the All-Star Break with game three of the series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the two teams meet for a 7:05 PM scheduled first pitch Friday, June 13, at Hank Aaron Stadium. Fans are encouraged to stick around the game Friday night for a post-game fireworks show.
