Jackson Generals News Release

PEARL, MISS - Another great pitcher's duel ensued Friday as the Generals (32-39) rallied late and defeated the Mississippi Braves (40-31) 3-1 at Trustmark Park. Starter Stephen Landazuri (3-2, 3.77) pitched well in his second start after returning from the disabled list, but was limited to four shutout innings due to pitch count. Four Jackson pitchers combined to handcuff the Braves hitters, allowing just one run on eight hits. The win snapped a three-game losing skid.

It did not take the Generals long to get on the scoreboard as Patrick Kivlehan (2x4, R, RBI) led off the second inning with his ninth double of the season. He moved to third on a single by Kevin Rivers (1x4) and scored the first run of the game when Dario Pizzano (0x2, BB) grounded into a double play to make the score 1-0 Jackson.

It took the Braves until the sixth inning to tie the game. Jose Peraza singled with one out and stole second with two outs to put himself in position to score on a Cedric Hunter single to erase the Jackson lead and make the score 1-1.

The sparse offensive night ended in the ninth when Jackson took the lead for good. Jack Marder (1x3, R) and Ketel Marte (1x4, R) led things off with a pair of singles. Jamal Austin (0x3) sacrificed them up 90 feet on a bunt which set up Kivlehan for an RBI single that scored Marder. After Rivers struck out Leon Landry (1x1, RBI) came up with a two-out RBI infield single to score Marte and increase the lead to 3-1.

Richard Vargas (1-1, 6.00) picked up the win pitching 0.2 inning scoreless. Mayckol Guaipe (1-1, 5 SV, 1.75) earned his fifth save on the season after a scoreless ninth. Cam Hobson (4-5, 3.25) tossed 3.1 innings, allowing just one run behind Landazuri. Mississippi reliever Ryne Harper (3-3, 3.38) dropped to 3-3 with the loss.

The Generals and Braves will face off in the middle game of the series on Saturday in Pearl, Miss. Jackson will send Victor Sanchez (3-2, 4.06) to the bump and the starter for the South All-Stars last Tuesday Williams Perez (3-3, 1.93) will make the start for Mississippi. The game will begin at 6:00 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
