Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears (42-28) opened up the second half of the 2014 Southern League Schedule with a 5-1 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits (36-35) Thursday night at Riverwalk stadium.

The Biscuits scored first with a run in the first inning when Taylor Motter's RBI ground-out plated Ryan Brett who led-off the game with a single to center. The BayBears evened the score in the top of the second with a RBI single from Gerson Montilla.

Jake Hager put Montgomery back in front 3-1 with a two-run triple in the third. Hanger finished the game just a double shy of hitting for the cycle after adding another biscuit run in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run. Jeff Malm came home for the final Biscuit run, scoring from third on a throwing error by Mark Thomas in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The loss was the first of the season for BayBears' RHP Justin Fitzgerald (6-1). Fitzgerald allowed four earned runs on six hits, walking four and striking out four over five innings on the mound. The win was credited to Biscuits' RHP Dylan Floro (7-5) who limited the Mobile bats to just the one run on eight hits while walking one and striking out three in 6.2 innings.

Mobile and Montgomery continue the five-game series with game two Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. The Biscuits will send RHP Victor Mateo (7-4, 3.73) to the mound. RHP Bradin Hagens (5-3, 4.67 ERA) will take the hill for the BayBears.
