Ramirez Homers Twice in Stars Rout

Pensacola, FL - Huntsville Stars first baseman Nick Ramirez launched a grand slam in the eighth inning that pulled the Stars away from the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in a 11-1 Stars win Friday night at Bayfront Stadium.

Ramirez hit two homeruns in the Stars win as he finished 3-4 with 6 rbi's. Ramirez now has thirteen homeruns on the season.

The Stars took a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Pensacola RHP Jon Moscot(4-6).

Hainley Statia roped an rbi triple down the right field line scoring Kentrail Davis for an early 1-0 lead. The next batter was Ramirez who drove a double over the centerfielder Yorman Rodriguez's head.

Shawn Zarraga also produced an rbi single in the first inning giving the Stars a 3-0 lead.

In the Stars fifth, Ramirez hit a solo homerun to right field. Zarraga also scored in the inning on a throwing error by second baseman Ryan Wright which put the Stars ahead 5-0.

Moscot, who took the loss worked five innings allowing eight hits on five runs(four earned).

Jed Bradley(1-2) who earned his first Double-A win pitched five scoreless innings for the Stars. He allowed five hits and walked four. He stranded eight runners on base and worked out of several key jams to hold the Blue Wahoos off the scoreboard. Bradley induced three double play balls in his start.

Pensacola scored their lone run of the game in the seventh off Casey Medlen. Rodriguez hit a solo homerun, his third homer of the year cutting it to a 5-1 deficit.

The Stars put the game away in the eighth inning. Shea Vucinich had a pinch hit rbi single making it 6-1.

The big blow was the back to back homers by Ramirez and Jason Rogers. Ramirez's grand slam was crushed over the right center field wall and put the Stars ahead 10-1.

Rogers then followed with a solo homerun to left center for his seventh homerun of the season.

Zarraga finished 4-5 with an rbi.

The Stars(1-1, 47-25) and Blue Wahoos(1-1, 32-40) will play game three of their five game series on Saturday as the series is tied at 1-1. RHP Drew Gagnon(4-2, 2.95) will start for the Stars. Pensacola will have RHP Michael Lorenzen(4-4, 2.41) on the mound. Saturday's game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:15 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
