Generals Host "Red" Tilson Remembrance Day Game on November 12th

Oshawa, ON - November 8th, 2010 - On Friday, November 12th the Oshawa Generals will host the Annual Red Tilson Remembrance Day Game when they face the Belleville Bulls at 7:35 PM.

Fans are asked to wear RED to the game in memory of Red Tilson and in support of all the Canadian Troops past and present who have served all over the world.

Prior to the game there will be a special ceremony honouring those who have served along with a special performance by the Pipes and Drum of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #43 as they perform their original song "Beneath the Vigils."

Beneath the Vigils is a moving song which acknowledges the soldiers and their families who make the journey along the Highway of Hereos. Copies of the song will be available on the concourse throughout the game with all net funds being donated to the Operational Stress Injury Clinic in Parkwood Hospital of St. Joseph's HealthCare in London, Ontario. This clinic offers a specialized mental health service to veterans who are encountering ongoing difficulties as a result of service-related psychological injury and traumatic events. Albert Tilson was given the nickname "Red" when he came to Oshawa because of his fire red hair, but it was his fire power on the ice that really turned heads. During his time in Oshawa, Red put up impressive numbers including being the League's scoring champion in his second season.

Prior to his third season with the Generals, at the age of 19, Red decided walk away from his hockey career to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces. Red made the ultimate sacrifice for his country on October 27th, 1944. In his memory, the Red Tilson Trophy was created to recognize the League's Most Outstanding Player and has been awarded annually ever since. Albert "Red" Tilson became the first General to have his number retired on November 12th, 2006.
