Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Windsor Spitfires are proud to announce that the Spitfire players and coaches will be kicking off their 2010 Spitfires "Fans and Friends" Community Programs efforts tomorrow at Queen Victoria Public School and St. Pius X School. The Spitfires "Fans and Friends" Community Programs initiative has been active since the 2006-2007 season and is comprised of community based programs designed to engage the community by sending Spitfire players and staff to public events.

Both visits will be part of the Spitfires annual Adopt-a-School Program, a program through which the Windsor Spitfires partner up with local businesses in an effort to adopt elementary and secondary schools in Windsor and Essex County. The Spitfires Adopt-a-School Program is the largest community based program conducted by the team this season as 20 sponsors support 25 participating schools.

Local businesses purchase 6 season tickets for their "adopted school" providing students from each school with the opportunity to attend each of the Spitfires 34 regular season home games. The sponsored schools also each receive a financial contribution to be used by the school.

To round out the program, a Spitfire player and team staff members visits each participating school once during the season as part of the program and speaks in front of a school assembly.
