Top Opponent Prospects: SS Nico Hoerner (#2 in Chicago Cubs' system), LHP Justin Steele (#8), RHP Cory Abbott (#9), RHP Keegan Thompson (#10), RHP Thomas Hatch (#17), RHP Tyson Miller (#19), C Jhonny Pereda (#29)

LAST GAME: The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, gave the Tennessee Smokies the business on Tuesday night, winning 9-0 at Smokies Stadium to even their series at 1-1. The Generals (5-6) put up their highest scoring game of the year, as the Smokies (7-4) became Jackson's second shutout victim of the season. The Generals offense came out swinging from the first bell, landing five consecutive blows against Tennessee right-hander Thomas Hatch (0-1, 5.65 ERA) to begin the game.

Andy Young, Pavin Smith, Jamie Westbrook, Daulton Varsho, and Ramon Hernandez all hit their way on bases within the first 13 pitches, creating a 3-0 Generals advantage. By night's end, each of the first five Generals in the batting order collected multi-hit games, while Smith, Westbrook, and Varsho all drove in multiple runs. From the hill, life was simple for Bo Takahashi (2-0, 1.80 ERA), who retired the first eight men in order before allowing a double to his counter-part, Hatch. Takahashi stranded a leadoff triple in the fourth inning and a leadoff single in the fifth, turning the game over to Bud Jeter (H, 1) in the sixth after five scoreless frames. Jeter gave his best effort of the year, throwing three shutout innings in relief while striking out four men. Kevin Ginkel salted away the victory with a run-free ninth inning.

TODAY'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Right-hander Emilio Vargas has looked sharp in each of his first two outings, featuring an ERA and WHIP under 1.00 through 10.0 IP. Tennessee RHP Cory Abbott went 8-6 with a 2.50 ERA last season in 22 starts across Low-A and High-A. He was taken by the Cubs in the 2nd round of the 2017 MLB Draft, 23 picks after Generals infielder Drew Ellis.

NEW HIGH SCORE: The Generals' 9-0 win over Tennessee on Tuesday marked a season high in runs scored. Last year, the Generals went 17-0 in the regular season when scoring 9+ runs in a game. Their offense, which led the league with a .262 batting average in 2018, averaged 4.5 runs per game in 2018, third-highest in the SL.

PROSPECT POTENTIAL: The 2018 Generals featured a handful of talented guys, including D-backs top pitching prospect Jon Duplantier, who became the first player to make his 2019 MLB debut on April 1. The 2019 Generals include 9 players in MLBPipeline.com's top 30 D-backs prospects: infielders Jazz Chisholm (#1), Andy Young (#11), Drew Ellis (#15), and Pavin Smith (#17); catchers Daulton Varsho (#4) and Dominic Miroglio (#27); outfielder Marcus Wilson (#20); and pitchers Emilio Vargas (#16) and Kevin Ginkel (#27).
