GREENSBORO GENERALS

The Generals fell to the Charlotte Checkers 8-1 last night. Greensboro was down 1-0 after one period, and the deficit grew to 3-0 in the second period. Mark Turner drew the Generals to within 3-1 with 1:20 left in the period when he deflected a Kevin Grimes shot into the net. However, Charlotte exploded for five unanswered goals in the third period.

RICHMOND RENEGADES

The Renegades defeated the South Carolina Stingrays 4-2 on Wednesday night at home. Lars Pettersen scored the only goal of the first period for a 1-0 lead. The Stingrays evened the score in the second, only to have Pettersen regain Richmond's advantage. The Renegades' Nick Lent pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third period, and following a Stingrays score, Pettersen completed the hat trick to seal the victory.

RECENT TRANSACTIONS

¨ 1/9 Activated defenseman Kurt Drummond from the 7-day injured list.

¨ 1/9 Placed defenseman Juraj Slovak on the 7-day injured list.

¨ A Generals victory tonight will be their 24th of the season, breaking last season's total for wins.

¨ The Generals have killed 43 of their last 45 shorthanded situations (95.6%).

¨ The Generals are only three for their last 30 on the power play (10.0%).

¨ After scoring a total of five points in his first 25 games, Matt Chandler now has five points (3g, 2a) in his last three games.

¨ Prior to Wednesday's victory, the Renegades had only won one of their previous eleven contests.

This is the sixth of eight meetings between the Generals and Renegades this year. The Generals are 3-0-2 against Richmond this year, including victories in each of the last three match-ups. The final two games of the season series are both in February, in Richmond on February 7 and in Greensboro on February 13.
