Geiger Named FSL Player of the Week

Daytona Beach, FL - The Florida State League announced, Monday, that Daytona Cubs infielder Dustin Geiger was named Florida State League Player of the Week for the week ending May 19th.

In eight games, Geiger (21) batted 15-for-32 (.469) with two home runs, one triple, seven doubles, seven RBIs and six runs scored. The Merritt Island, FL native has raised his batting average .47 points over his last seven games (.286 to .333).

Overall in 2013, Geiger is hitting .333 (49-for-147) with five home runs and leads the Florida State League with 36 runs batted in over 40 games played. Geiger has hit 11 doubles this season and has walked 16 times to 26 strikeouts.

Geiger is hitting .394 against lefties this season, .386 with runners in scoring position, and has a .373 batting average in 16 games in May.

Geiger joins INF Jorge Soler (week 5), Javier Baez (week 3), and pitcher Ryan Searle (week 1) as 2013 Daytona Cubs to win Florida State League Player or Pitcher of the Week honors through six weeks.

Geiger was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 24th round of the 2010 draft.
