FLINT, Mich. - USA Hockey announced on Saturday that Firebirds forward Gavin Hayes has been selected to the roster for the 2024 U.S. National Junior Team. He and the rest of the roster will compete for the United States of America at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championships.

Hayes participated in training camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan during the week and will depart for Gothenburg, Sweden along with the rest of the U.S. roster in the coming days. The tournament will take place from Dec. 26 - Jan. 5 and all U.S. games will be televised on the NHL Network. The USA took bronze in the 2023 World Junior Championship in Canada.

Hayes becomes the fourth Firebird to be selected for a World Juniors roster and the first to play for the United States. He joins Brennan Othmann, who played for Canada in 2022, Ty Dellandrea, who played for Canada in 2020 and Vili Saarijarvi, who played for Finland in 2016. Each Firebird who has appeared in World Juniors has won a gold medal. Firebirds center Simon Slavicek was named to the preliminary roster for Czechia on Dec. 12. Czechia has yet to announce its final roster.

Hayes, who is signed to an entry level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, has played in 27 games for the Firebirds this season and leads the team in both goals with 19 and points with 36. The Westland, Michigan native is the only American-born player on the Firebirds roster.
