
Gaustad and Janik Reassigned to Rochester

(Rochester, NY)... The Buffalo Sabres announced today that center Paul Gaustad and defenseman Doug Janik have been reassigned to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Gaustad returns from Buffalo after playing in the Sabres' 4-3 OT win over the Colorado Avalanche last night. It was the first time in his professional career he was promoted to Buffalo. The Amerk rookie is third on the team with 49 points (13+36) in 74 games. The center is second on the Amerks with three short-handed goals. The Fargo, North Dakota, native is seventh in the AHL in rookie scoring and second in assists. Gaustad was Buffalo's seventh-round selection (220th overall) in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Janik heads back to Rochester after playing in six games with the Buffalo Sabres. It was the first recall to Buffalo in his professional career. The University of Maine graduate played in all 80 games last season with Rochester. He was named Rochester's Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player and Unsung Hero in 2001-02. This season, Janik has 13 points (3+10) in 69 games with the Amerks. The Agawam, Mass., native was Buffalo's second-round selection (55th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Rochester prepares for an important three-game in three-night stretch this weekend, which includes Norfolk, Hamilton and Cincinnati. The Amerks (26-29-14-5, 71 points) enter the contests in 11th place in the Western Conference playoff race. Rochester trails the Philadelphia Phantoms (30-30-6-6, 72 points) by one point for the 10th and final playoff spot.
