Cingular Wireless Presents Phlex's Seventh Birthday

March 25, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

Phlex will be celebrating his seventh birthday this Sunday, March 30 and many of his mascot friends will be joining him for a giant broomball game during the second intermission. Everyone in attendance will receive a rally towel courtesy of Cingular Wireless and be sure to check out the popular Philadelphia Zoo's "Zoo on Wheels" display on the concourse.

SECOND JERSEY AUCTION RAISES $21,740

The Phantoms Wives Charity Foundation, a division of the Comcast-Spectacor Foundation, raised $21,740 on Sunday in the second jersey auction of the season. As part of Tribute to Philly Hockey Night, the Phantoms wore replicas jerseys of the old Philadelphia Firebirds (1974-77 NAHL,1977-79 AHL) during their 5-4 overtime win over the Hartford Wolf Pack before auctioning them off in Bullies Sports Bar & Restaurant.

For the first time, right wing Kirby Law's jersey received the highest bid at $1,300. Defensemen Dennis Seidenberg and Brad Tiley's jerseys came in second and third with $1,250 and $1,200, respectively.

The proceeds from the auction and all fund-raising efforts this season are going to the National Adoption Center. The NAC is a private, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia that has found families for more than 19,000 children across the United States.

During the first jersey auction of the season, the Phantoms Wives raised $19,000 on Dec. 20 when the team wore special red & green Holiday jerseys during its 4-2 win over the Hershey Bears. A total of $1,470 was also raised at the third annual player bachelor auction on Nov. 15. Fans placed bids at the Phantoms Wives table for the chance to go on a date with one of six single Phantoms players, as well as Mix 95.7 afternoon disc jockey Rick Stacy.

PHANTOMS RAISE $2,620 FOR "SLAP SHOT" STAR

The Phantoms held a silent auction on the concourse last Sunday to help raise money for Louise Arters, who played one of the Sparkle Twins (the blonde bombshell groupies) in the 1977 motion picture "Slap Shot." Arters was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1985 and is in need of a specially equipped van to get around.

Arters and her twin sister Janet were joined by Paul D'Amato and Mark Bousquet, who portrayed Syracuse Bulldogs players Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken and Andre "Poodle" Lussier in the movie, in dropping the opening puck and signing autographs. The silent auction included autographed Phantoms and Flyers items, as well as Charlestown Chiefs t-shirts, jerseys, photos, posters and pucks. Additional "Slap Shot" items can still be found at http://groups.msn.com/FrozenPondAuctionItems/shoebox.msnw?Page=1 or to donate online, check out www.slapshot.20m.com.
