Gators upset Ice Pilots 5-3

Pensacola FL- In the last game this year between two long time rivals, Louisiana used the hot goaltending of Nathan Marsters and a four goal night by Jade Galbraith to defeat the Pensacola Ice Pilots 5-3, Tuesday night in Pensacola. Nathan Marsters set a new team record by stopping 56 shots as the Gators gave a up another team record by allowing 59 shots on net.

     Playing with emotion and intensity, the Gators jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period. At 3:12, Dave McCulloch sent a wrist shot toward the net from the left point that was deflected by Jade Galbraith through the legs of Frederic Cloutier for a 1-0 Louisiana lead. Shawn Skiehar getting the other assist on Galbraith's 15th of the season. After a power play goal by Chris St. Jacques (16) tied the game at 8:41, the Gators took the lead back 36 seconds later. Joe Dustin played the puck toward the left circle, it wads picked up by Galbraith who faked a shot, went around the net and slid the biscuit inside the near post for his 16th of the season and a 2-1 Gators advantage. Pensacola outshot Louisiana 19-8 in the first 20 minutes.

     Galbraith began the 2nd period by completing his hat trick in style. Playing left point on the power play, the native of Hinton, Alberta faked the shot, walked into the slot and lifted a wrister past Cloutier for his 3rd of the night, 17th of the year and a 3-1 Gators lead at 3:08. Corey Neilson countered for Pensacola 26 second later, his 13th, for a 3-2 game. Louisiana answered again at 7:55, when Mason's shot banked off the back boards to a wide open McCulloch, who tapped it into the virtually empty net and a two goal cushion at 4-2. Pensacola outshot Louisiana 19-9 in the 2nd period.

     In the 3rd period, Pensacola got off the first 18 shots on goal before a collision in front of the net resulted in Cory Stillman bouncing the puck in for a 4-3 score with 1:28 to play. After pulling Cloutier, the Pilots had a chance to tie but Marsters denied a Neislen snap shot from the slot. Alex Sawruk cleared the puck to Galbraith, who deposited his 4th of the night into the empty net for a 5-3 Gators victory. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 21-3 in favor of Pensacola. The 21 shots allowed in the period equaled a 3rd team record on the night. Marsters 56 saves set the record for most stops by a Gators netminder in regular season play.

    With the win, Louisiana's record is now 24-37-5, 56 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Pensacola 59-20. Power plays were 1-5 for the Gators and 0-5 for the Ice Pilots.
