Gladiators Playoff March Update

March 29, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

If the playoffs were to begin today, the Gladiators would be the 7th seed in the American Conference. The top 8 teams in the conference qualify for the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Division winners seeded 1 & 2. Pensacola is currently in 1st place in the South Division while Columbia is currently in 1st place in the East Division.

The Gladiators clinched a playoff berth with a win over Bakersfield last Saturday night.

All the playoff positions have been clinched in the American Conference.

Teams are now fighting for playoff position in the American Conference with 6 points separating 8th place and 4th place. (Because just one point separates the top three teams in the American Conference, they could end tied and the second place team would then be seeded behind Florida who has more points than all the teams in the East Division.)

Gwinnett has 6 games remaining in the regular season, 4 at home and 2 on the road.

The Gladiators face three different teams in their final six games – 3 against Augusta, 2 against Charlotte and 1 against Pee Dee.

With a perfect 6-0-0 record in the last 6 games, the Gladiators would finish the regular season with 90 points. Florida, currently in 3rd in the Conference with 87 points, can only win 1 game (or tie two games) for the Gladiators to have a chance at 3rd place in the Conference.

Gwinnett is .500 or better against every team they have games remaining against this season that they have already played.

The Gladiators finished in 3rd place in the Central Division last year and were the lower seed in the first round of the playoffs. They need to finish 4th or higher in the American Conference to have home ice in the first round of the playoffs.

The Gladiators host Augusta on Friday, Charlotte on Saturday and visit Pee Dee on Sunday.
