Sellouts In Alaska, Florida, Idaho Raise Attendance

March 29, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - Sellout crowds in Alaska on Friday and Saturday combined with a standing-room-only crowd in Florida on Friday and a capacity crowd in Idaho on Saturday helped the ECHL increase its average attendance to 3,955 per game. The average is up two percent from 2003-04 when the league increased its average attendance for the first time since 1996-97.

Friday and Saturday were the seventh and eighth sellouts for the Aces, doubling the number of regular season sellouts from a year ago, and marked the third time this year that the Aces have had capacity crowds on back-to-back nights. Alaska finishes the regular season averaging 4,735 per game, up more than nine percent from last season when the Aces increased their attendance by more than 42 percent.

There have been 41 sellouts in the ECHL led by Victoria with nine followed by Alaska with eight, Florida with six, Idaho with four and Augusta, Gwinnett, Reading and Toledo with two each. Columbia, Las Vegas, Long Beach, Louisiana, Trenton and Wheeling have each had one sellout.

Florida leads the league in both total attendance (209,488) and average attendance (6,161) and is looking to finish atop the league in total and average attendance for the fifth consecutive season. Gwinnett is second with 194,701 and 6,084, up more than 20 percent from its inaugural season in 2003-04, followed by San Diego with 184,888 and 5,602, up more than 11 percent from last season. Reading ranks fourth with 174,007 and 5,437 while Bakersfield has seen its average attendance increase by almost 17 percent to 5,270. Long Beach is up almost 14 percent to 2,985 and Charlotte is up more than 10 percent to 4,975.
