Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Todd Gordon today announced the signing of Defenseman Jake Ortmeyer and Left Wing Bryan Perez to standard ECHL contracts for the 2004-05 season.
Acquired from Wheeling in an off season trade, Ortmeyer had a breakout season with the Nailers in 2003-04. The 26 year-old native of Omaha, Nebraska, had career highs in goals (12) assists (22) and points (34). Ortmeyer had an outstanding plus/minus rating of +36, the best on his team, tops among ECHL defenseman and second in the entire league.
"Jake Ortmeyer is going to be a leader on the blue line, a big, solid defenseman who will be the backbone of our defense," said Gordon. "His +36 for last season shows Ortmeyer is one of the best defensemen in the ECHL."
Bryan Perez joins the IceGators after spending his rookie season with the Roanoke Express. The 22 year old native of Blaine, Minnesota, tallied 8 goals and 13 assists in 42 games last year. Prior to turning pro, Perez played two seasons at Michigan Tech and one year as a member of the U.S. Junior National team. Perez was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 2001 NHL entry draft, getting picked in the 9th round, the 260th player to be selected.
"Bryan Perez will provide a lot of energy up front," said Gordon. "As he progresses into his 2nd professional season I think he will get a chance to put up more points as well."
Season Ticket, Flex Plans, and IcePack ticket vouchers are on sale now for the IceGators 10th anniversary season. For more information call the IceGators office at (337) 234-4423.
