Gates to Help Lead Summer League Team
Boise, Idaho (July 3, 2007) - Idaho Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates was selected today to be one of two coaches on the Seattle SuperSonics sidelines during the NBA Summer Leagues, which begin at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League July 6-15 and continues at the Rocky Mountain Revue scheduled for July 13-20 in Salt Lake City.
Gates will assist Ralph Lewis on the Sonics' sidelines. During the 2006-07 NBA Development League season, Gates led the Stampede to a 33-17 regular season record, which tied for the best record in the league with the Dakota Wizards and set the record for highest regular season winning percentage. For his efforts, Gates was presented with the Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year Award.
In addition, Gates will be coaching a few players that either played on the Stampede roster during the 2006-07 season, or played against Idaho during the year. Such players include Sonics 10th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft Mouhamed Sene, former Stampede guard David Jackson, and former Stampede guard Julius Hodge.
The NBA Las Vegas Summer League consists of 22 total teams, 21 NBA squads and the Chinese National Team. In addition to the Sonics, the Rocky Mountain Revue features entries from the Atlanta Hawks, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz.
