CLEARWATER, Fla. - Despite a late rally in game 2, the Threshers drop both games of the doubleheader to the Tarpons on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark.

In game 1, the teams were scoreless through three innings until Tampa went on a tear in the fourth. An inning riddled with walks and wild pitches saw seven runs cross the plate for the Tarpons.

Clearwater also got on the board in the fourth after Jared Carr scorched a triple on the ground and later scored on an error by the first baseman when the throw sailed over the head of pitcher Blane Abeyta covering first base. 7-1 Tarpons lead.

Tampa added to the advantage in the sixth inning of the seven-inning contest. Cooper Bowman hit a two-out single and scored on a Ryder Green double. Green crossed home on an Anthony Garcia RBI-single that put the Tarpons up 9-1.

The Threshers battled back in the bottom of the sixth. T.J. Rumfield and Kendall Simmons drew walks and Johan Rojas reached base on a fielder's choice to load the bases with one out. Rumfield scored on an RBI-ground out from MLB rehabber Matt Joyce decreasing the deficit to a final score of 9-2.

Clearwater and Tampa battled back and forth in game two. The Threshers were first to score in the second inning. Ethan Wilson greeted the first pitch of the at-bat with a smack into center field for a double and later scored on a Felix Reyes double for an early 1-0 lead.

Tampa tacked on two in the third after a triple and a throwing error allowed Evan Alexander to score and three walks followed by a force out saw a second run cross the plate to put the Tarpons ahead 2-1.

The teams traded one run each in the sixth with the Tarpons maintaining a lead. It would all come down to the seventh inning. Tampa scored three in the top half and The Threshers were down to their final out. Freylin Minyety and Chris Burke hit back-to-back knocks and Johan Rojas walked to load the bases with two outs. Luis Garcia smacked his fifteenth double of the season to score Minyety and Burke and get the Threshers within one run at 6-5, but the Threshers fell short on Saturday night.

The Threshers and Tarpons square off in the series finale Sunday afternoon at BayCare Ballpark. Gates open at 11:00 a.m. for the 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
