LINCOLN (21-13-1)
The Stars snapped a four-game losing streak last night with a 6-5 shootout win over the Sioux Falls Stampede. Lincoln outscored Sioux Falls 3-1 over the final 13:56 of regulation to come back from a 4-2. Jack Larrigan and Daniel Sambuco scored shorthanded goals 1:10 apart before Henry Nelson sent the game to overtime with 2:15 remaining in regulation. Antonio Fernandez scored the only goal in the shootout for his second shootout-winning goal of the season.
Lincoln gained ground in the Western Conference standings thanks to last night's comeback victory and help from a team two spots above them. The Stars sit five points back of the Waterloo Black Hawks for second place in the West after the Fargo Force defeated the Black Hawks, 7-4. If Fargo defeats Waterloo tonight to sweep the weekend set and the Stars can win again tonight, then Lincoln will can claw to just one point back of Waterloo if they also win on Sunday afternoon at Sioux City.
SIOUX CITY (18-13-2-3)
The Musketeers continued their recent roll with a 7-2 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers last night. Ryan Conmy recorded a hat trick with three-third period goals. Sioux City led 3-2 after two periods before busting out with a three-goal third. In addition to scoring four times in the third Sioux City outshot Des Moines 18-8 after failing to record double-digit shots in the first two periods. The Musketeers also held the Buccaneers to one shot in the first period.
Conmy continued his stellar season with another big game last night. His 22 goals are the most among Western Conference teams and are also tied for fourth in the entire USHL. Conmy now has six multi-goal games and scored in both games against the Stars two weekends ago
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Leading After 2: Lincoln clawed back from four different deficits last night and instead looks to take a lead into the final period tonight. The Stars are 14-0-1 when ahead after 40 minutes and Sioux City entered the weekend winless at 0-9-0-1 when down after two periods.
Hat Trick Watch: Conmy's hat trick last night was the first by a Musketeers skater and the 21st in the USHL in the 2022-23 season. Tanner Ludtke scored twice last night for his fifth multi-goal game but the Stars are still looking for their first hat trick of this campaign. The last Lincoln hat trick was March 26, 2022, when Lucas Wahlin recorded his second hat trick in as many games.
Turning the Page: The Stars faced the Musketeers twice a couple of weekends and lost both games. The loss at the Ice Box on Jan. 20 snapped a four-game winning streak overall and a four-game home winning streak.
