Adirondack Thunder News Release
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup is Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the South Carolina Stingrays and the Adirondack Thunder. The series is tied at three games apiece after a 4-1 win for South Carolina in Game 6 last night in North Charleston.
WINNER TAKES ALL: For the first time this season, the Adirondack Thunder face elimination in a winner-takes-all Game 7. The winner of tonight's game will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they will face-off against the winner of the Reading/Wheeling series, while the loser sees their season come to an end.
DO THE MATH-IEU: Adirondack defenseman Mathieu Brodeur collected his team's lone goal, a power-play tally, in last evening's 4-1 defeat. With the Thunder on a 5-on-3 advantage late in the first period, Brodeur one-timed a Greg Wolfe feed past South Carolina netminder Mark Dekanich for his second goal of the series and third point of the playoffs. Brodeur's goal ties him with teammate Patch Alber for second amongst Thunder defensemen in scoring during the playoffs.
WOLFE PACK: Forward Greg Wolfe found the scoresheet for the second straight night in Game 6, with an assist on Brodeur's goal. Wolfe, who also picked up two points in Game 5, has now collected a point in each of the four games that Adirondack has scored a goal in during this series. The Lansing, MI native leads all Thunder skaters in playoff scoring with six goals and 13 points, which places him in a tie for fifth in the ECHL in points.
PENALTY PARADE: For the third time in this series, emotions boiled over in the third period, resulting in 98 penalty minutes in the final stanza alone. The third period featured five fights, all within a 25 second span, beginning with 1:10 to play in the game. Last night marked the series high in penalty minutes, with 120 combined between the two teams, and the third time in which the teams have accrued at least 40 minutes in the third period alone, including 88 minutes during Game 4 in Glens Falls.
SPECIAL TEAM STING: South Carolina has won the special teams battle so far in this series, shown by a three-goal effort on the power play last in last night's win. Overall in the series, the Stingrays have converted on 7-of-28 power-play chances, good for a 25% success rate. On the penalty kill, South Carolina has allowed only three power-play goals, killing penalties at a 91.9% rate (34-of-37).
A LOOK AHEAD: Tonight's game will be the end of the season for one of these two teams, while the other will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals to take on either the Reading Royals or the Wheeling Nailers, with that series beginning this weekend.
