Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA - The Royals used three consecutive singles with one out in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Las Vegas 51s 7-6 Sunday at Rosenblatt Stadium. Chris Truby's broken-bat RBI single plated Scott Walter with the winning run. It gave Omaha a 3-1 series victory, as well as its ninth win in eleven games and sent 4,235 fans home happy.

Truby had gone hitless in his first four at-bats on Sunday, including a foul pop to third base with one out and runners at first and third in the seventh inning and the scored tied at 6-all.

The 51s had completed a comeback from a 6-2 hole that they faced after two innings when Henri Stanley lined a two-run single to center field with two away in the top of the seventh. It came off Shawn Sonnier, who had relieved starter Danny Tamayo after he walked the leadoff batter in the inning, only to have Sonnier walk the first man he faced. Both recipients of the free passes - Brian Myrow and Cody Ross - scored on Stanley's clutch hit.

Jason Grabowski gave Las Vegas an early lead, smacking a two-run homer off Tamayo in the first inning. However, the Royals came back with three in the bottom of the first off Mike Neu. After Neu retired the first two Omaha batters, Matt Diaz doubled, Calvin Pickering singled him home and Scott Walter lined a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall with Pickering breaking towards second on the pitch. It was Walter's seventh homer in his 36th game and was the first of a season-high three hits for the Royals catcher.

The Royals upped the lead to 6-2 with three more runs in the second. Luis Ugueto and Adrian Brown stroked back-to-back one-out doubles. With two down, Diaz clouted his tenth home run, giving him 40 RBI in 42 games with Omaha. Diaz would add a fifth inning single, before being retired in his last two at-bats. Over his last 15 games, Diaz is hitting at a torrid .554 clip (36-65).

In addition to Grabowski's two-run homer, Tamayo surrendered solo shots to Brian Myrow in the fourth and Mike Nixon in the fifth. Tamayo now ranks third in the Pacific Coast League with 22 home runs allowed.

Justin Huber had two singles for the Royals, including one in the ninth inning that moved Walter into scoring position for Truby's game-winning knock. Omaha (54-61) improves to 19-19 in one-run decisions and 10-12 in games decided in the last at-bat.

The Royals open a four-game series vs. Tucson at Rosenblatt Monday at 7:05: LH Mark Freed (7-4, 4.86) vs. RH Kyle Snyder (1-2, 2.45). Air-time is 6:14 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
