Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Lethbridge, AB - A late third period push from the Prince Albert Raiders (13-38-3-2) came up just a little short for the second consecutive game on Friday night.
The Raiders dropped a 4-2 game to the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Enmax Centre in the second game of their three-game road trip.
The Hurricanes opened the scoring late in the first period. Alex Baer solved Ian Scott with 5:30 left in the frame to give the home team a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
In the second, Raiders captain Tim Vanstone tied the game. He deked Stuart Skinner on a shorthanded breakaway to make it a 1-1 game at the 5:30 mark of the period. It was the Raiders' sixth shorthanded goal this season.
The Raiders had a great chance to break the deadlock early in the third period. Vojtech Budik was tripped up on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot just 1:37 into the period. The import defenceman solved Skinner, but hit the post on his attempt.
The Hurricanes made the Raiders pay for the miscue. Three minutes after the missed penalty shot, Matt Alfaro was left alone in the slot and he made no mistake in giving Lethbridge a 2-1 lead. With 5:18 to play, Zak Zborosky added a power-play goal to make it a 3-1 game.
For the second straight game, the Raiders pulled closer with the extra attacker. With 1:24 to play, Curtis Miske converted a beautiful pass from Simon Stransky to bring the Raiders back within one. However, Baer buried his second goal of the game into the empty net to make the final 4-2.
Scott made his second consecutive start for the Raiders, stopping 30 of 33 shots faced in the loss. Skinner made 37 saves to pick up the win.
The Raiders wrap up their road trip tomorrow night in Cranbrook when they take on the Kootenay ICE. Game time is 8 p.m. The Raiders return home on Wednesday for a date with the Brandon Wheat Kings. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at raiderhockey.com, the Raider Office or by calling 306-764-5348.
