Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Nov. 12, 2016) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (2-4-3) lost a close, tight checking battle to the Columbus Cottonmouths (4-4-0) by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night inside the Pensacola Bay Center.

The Cottonmouths got on the board first when Evan Neugold took a feed from Alex Pompeo and skated in all alone of Ice Flyers goalie John McLean to score the shorthanded goal 7:39 into the first. Columbus jumped to a 2-0 lead when Petr Senkerik squeezed a shot between McLean's arm and the post and found twine with 3:59 left in the first period.

Stephen Buco cut the Snakes' lead down to just 2-1 only 33 seconds into the second period when he fired a laser from the left wing faceoff dot. The goal was assisted by Kyle Shapiro and Aaron Clarke. The Ice Flyers couldn't complete the comeback attempt despite a late power play while McLean was pulled in favor of the extra attacker for a 6-on-4 manpower advantage.

McLean stopped 20 of the 22 shots Columbus put on goal. With the loss, his record now stands at 1-1-0.

The Ice Flyers are off next weekend and will return to the ice inside the Pensacola Bay Center on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 6:35 p.m. Central. It will be Thanksgiving Night in the Hangar so spend the night with your Ice Flyers family before spending the next day with your loved ones.
