Evansville Thunderbolts News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - On a night where Evansville celebrated and honored the nation's military, the Thunderbolts were undone by another tough second period and fell to the Macon Mayhem 3 - 1 Friday night.

Both teams had to travel to Evansville for the game; the Thunderbolts from Roanoke while Macon played in Knoxville last night. Regardless of the travel, Evansville carried the play for most of the first period. With eight minutes remaining in the first, Evansville outshot Macon 10 - 2. The teams would combine for 23 shots in a scoreless first period.

Evansville had been outscored in second periods 20 - 4 in nine games this season. The difficulties of the second period continued. Macon's Daniel Echeverri scored his third goal of the season at 2:25. The first penalty of the night was called at the 17:15 point of the second period, when Evansville's Ryan Patsch was sent to the box for slashing. Macon's league-best power play unit would convert the opportunity, and went to the locker room after 40 minutes with a two-goal lead.

Evansville answered early in the third. Tommy Fiorentino controlled the puck in the Macon zone before finding Dave Williams on the right wing. Williams' first shot was stopped by Macon netminder Jordan Ruby, but Williams recovered the rebound and stuffed it into the net short side to bring Evansville within one goal. The Thunderbolts had a late power play opportunity with Mayhem's Dennis Sicard in the box for Holding the Stick. Evansville had scored power play goals in back-to-back games, but couldn't convert. Collin MacDonald scored the empty net goal for Macon.

Jordan Ruby won his third game of the season for Macon. Tanner Milliron made 28 saves on 30 shots for Evansville. Evansville hosts Macon tomorrow afternoon. The puck drops at 5 p.m.
