Game Recap: Ice Flyers Beat Surge 4-1

PENSACOLA, FL. (December 17, 2013) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers hosted their rivals the Mississippi Surge tonight for only the second time this season and won 4-1.

The Ice Flyers struck first when Brett Lutes cashed in on a one-timer with John Dunbar and Steve Whitely getting the assists. Less than three minutes later, Mike MacIntyre put Pensacola up 2-0 with a power play goal. Dunbar and Ryan Salvis got the helpers. The Surge's Nick Kuqali cut the Ice Flyers' lead down to 2-1 with 7:58 left in the period.

The second period was scoreless but the Ice Flyers scored another two goals in the third period to close out the game. The first came when Ryan Salvis scored his first goal since Nov. 27 when he batted in a rebound. Podge Turnbull and Dunbar had the assists on the goal that came 6:04 into the third. Turnbull got a goal of his own with 3:59 remaining and Justin Alonzo along with Corey Banfield had the assists.

Johnny Griggs stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced tonight. Salvis was named the third star, Turnbull the second, and Dunbar was the first.

The Ice Flyers' next game is Friday, Dec. 20 against the Fayetteville FireAntz with puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
