Oshawa Generals News Release
The Generals lace up tonight at the Tribute Communities Centre for Game 2 of their first-round series against the Peterborough Petes. Oshawa came out of the playoff gates buzzing, grabbing a dominant 7-0 victory over the rival Petes at home on Friday in Game 1. Looking to keep up the momentum and take a 2-0 series lead, the Gens will aim for another hometown victory in tonight's post-season action.
After recording six wins during the regular season against the Petes and taking home a victory in Game 1, the Gens now hold a 7-1-1-0 record in nine total game against Peterborough this season. Scoring 48 goals in total over those nine contests, the Gens have had success generating offense against the division rivals and will look to add to the impressive number tonight.
One of the biggest stories coming out of Game 1 was Gens goaltender Kyle Keyser continuing his incredible play into the playoffs. After posting a 2.75 goals-against average and 0.915 save percentage during the regular season to solidify his spot amongst the top goalies in the league, Keyser began the post-season the same way by stopping all 33 shots he faced on Friday night to earn his first playoff shutout. With an amazing Game 1 performance under his belt, the goaltender will continue to be a key factor for the Gens throughout the series as they aim to shut down Peterborough's offense.
A couple of Generals players who also got off to a strong start in the team's massive 7-0 win in Game 1 include Brandon Saigeon and Brett Neumann. Saigeon had no problem getting back into the swing of playoff hockey, as he opened Game 1 with a big 3-point performance with a goal and 2 helpers. After a strong showing in Game 1, expect the experienced forward to continue his offensive tear and be an important player up front throughout the series. Neumann also wasted no time getting on the scoresheet in round one after he buried 2 goals to help lead the team to the huge win. Keep an eye on Neumann as he looks to light the lamp again in Game 2 tonight.
Join us at the Tribute Communities Centre tonight for the 6:05pm puck drop to watch the Gens back in action against the Petes for Game 2 of the first round! After tonight, the teams will head to Peterborough for Games 3 and 4 this week and return to Oshawa for Game 5 on Saturday if needed.
