Game Preview: First Responders Appreciation Day - Guelph vs. London, 2pm

First Responders appreciation game, student day with a skate with the Storm following the game. We've got it all for you today starting at 2pm when the London Knights visit the Sleeman Centre.

The Storm face off against the London Knights Sunday afternoon at 2pm for the first time this season. Last year the Storm and Knights battled six times, with London winning four of those games. Evan Bouchard was the top point getter for the Knights putting 12 points and Ryan Merkley led the way for the Storm with nine.

Both teams were ranked in the CHL's top 10 teams this week, Guelph placed 9th and London 5th. A loss against the Sarnia Sting last night snapped the Storm's five game winning streak.

Players to Watch

This game will feature 14 players that have been drafted to the NHL. The Guelph Storm have 7 NHL drafted players that include Ryan Merkley (SJ - 1st Round), Cam Hillis (MTL, 3rd Round), Isaac Ratcliffe (PHI, 2nd Round), Nate Schnarr (ARI, 3rd Round), Dimitri Samorukov (EDM 3rd Round), Liam Hawel (DAL - 4th Round) and Alexey Toropchenko (STL - 4th Round).

London Knights have 7 players that have been drafted by an NHL club including Liam Foudy (CBJ - 1st Round), Alex Formenton (OTT - 2nd Round), Evan Bouchard (EDM - 1st Round), Adam Boqvist (CHI - 1st Round), Jacob Golden (MIN - 5th Round), Alec Regula (DET - Round 3) and Jordan Kooy (VGK - 7th Round).

London's Liam Foudy is off to a good start to the 2018-2019 season with five points through the first six games. Foudy had an amazing second half to the 2017-2018 season that was kick started after he was announced to the CHL's Top Prospects game in Guelph. The Scarborough native was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 1st round (18th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Nate Schnarr is off to a fantastic start to the 2018-2019 season recording 14 points through the first eight games of the season. The Waterloo native has been key for the Storm on the Power Play so far this season scoring three goals and four assists with the man advantage. Scoring with less than two seconds left last Friday, the Arizona Coyotes prospect scored the game winning goal, matching his total from last season.

Today is the Storm's first annual First Responders Appreciation Day. A game where the Storm honour all the men and women of fire, police and paramedics in Guelph. Prior to the game members of the First Responders in Guelph will take part in a family skate at the Sleeman Centre and the puck drop will feature Police Chief Jeff DeRuyter, Paramedic Chief Stephen Dewar and Fire Chief John Osborne.

Sunday is also student day with a skate with the Storm following the game against the Knights.

Upcoming Games

The Guelph Storm have a busy weekend ahead as they will play division rival Kitchener Rangers in Kitchener on Friday October 19th at 7:30pm before traveling to Owen Sound on Saturday for a 7:30pm puck drop. The next home game for the Storm will be Sunday October 21st as they play against Kitchener at 2:00pm at the Sleeman Centre.
