Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Islanders roll into the Scotiabank Centre tonight at the helm of the QMJHL. With forty points in total this season, Charlottetown sits just a point ahead of Sherbrooke and two ahead of Quebec in a tight race so far this season to be at the top of the food chain. In three previous meetings this year, the Isles have captured victory in two of them outsourcing the Mooseheads 10-7. The Islanders remain with a few big names out of the lineup tonight when the puck drops at 7 pm. Lukas Cormier received the honor of being named to Team Canada's World Juniors Roster, and Xavier Simoneau remains out with an upper-body injury. With this being the Isles biggest test left before the break, Jim Hulton is sure to have his boys revved up to take the W home when puck drop comes along this evening.

Halifax also lost a big part of their roster to Team Canada as their captain Elliot Desnoyers was selected to the tournament roster. Desnoyers is second on the Mooseheads in points with 36. The Mooseheads currently sit in seventh place on the QMJHL standings board with 32 points, they are tied with Drummondville and Chcoutimi but have the most wins at 15. Halifax is on a two-game winning streak and is 3-2 in their last five games with a 15-10-1-1 mark this year. Leading the charge for the Moose so far this year has been second-year forward Jordan Dumais. Dumais has already set new career-highs in points, goals, and assists in just 27 games played. The Ile Bizard, Quebec native has 13 goals and 26 assists to this point on the campaign.

With Simoneau being out of the lineup these past three games, it has given one of his favorite targets time to catch up in the points race. Patrick Guay has 41 points entering tonight's action which is just one point of Simoneau's team-leading 42. Guay currently leads the league in goals at 23, one ahead of Shawinigan's Xavier Bourgault who is currently with Team Canada preparing for the World Juniors. Jakub Brabenec has been heating up with the absence of Simoneau. Brabenec is coming off a multi-goal game and is currently leading all rookie scoring with 32 points. The Isles forward hailing from the Czech Republic has been an impactful presence in his first year in the QMJHL and it has paid off with an invite to the Czech Republic's World Juniors Development Camp ahead of tournament action.

After getting back into the win column Saturday night with a 5-3 win in Saint John, the Islanders will look to turn it into a win-streak tonight and try to get a hot streak going before Christmas break. These last three games are big to try and keep Charlottetown at the reigns of the QMJHL standings. As well, we would like to give our star defenseman Lukas Cormier one more praise and congratulate him on making Team Canada for the oncoming World Juniors. The puck drops in Halifax at 7 pm this evening.
