Charlottetown Islanders News Release

As Keiran Gallant said to me last night, "we have a really strong team and hopefully bounce back next game." This came after the Isles 5-0 loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan yesterday night at the Eastlink Centre. We saw the crowd ignited by the efforts of Matt McQuaid and Ben Boyd as they tried to spark their squad in the second, unfortunately, those were the only highlights of the game for the Isles. Four goals in the final frame drove it home for the Titan in a bout where the absence of some of the Islanders big names like Simoneau, Cormier, and Plandowski was felt. Now, head coach Jim Hulton hopes to shelve that loss and regroup on their way to TD Station tonight to face the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs have been on quite the roll winning four of their last five games, with the previous one being the streak snapper in a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Victoriaville Tigres. Saint John will also have a massive piece of their lineup missing this evening as William Dufour their leading scorer is off to Team Canada's World Junior Selection Camp. The Sea Dogs will be looking for veteran defenseman Jeremie Poirier to continue his hot streak and guide his squad into tonight's action. Poirier was named to the QMJHL's team of the week accumulating two goals and four assists in four appearances. In total this season Poirier has amassed seven goals to go along with 27 total points in 26 games. Poirier, a past twenty-goal scorer in his second season, will be looking to get Saint John back in the win column tonight to build on their 14-9-0-3 record.

There wasn't any scoring to talk about last night for Charlottetown so let's look at some of the positives to look into before tonight's game. The Isles get back one of their main blue-liners in Oscar Plandowski as he is finished serving his four-game suspension and we'll be back in the lineup for puck drop this evening. Matt McQuaid and Keiran Gallant's energy from last night will hopefully continue into this bout as they were some spotlights in an otherwise dim game for Charlottetown. Patrick Guay hopes to get back on the score sheet as well seeing a rare no-point game for him last night. Guay is still tied for the league lead in goals at 22 with Xavier Bourgault but with Bourgault now away at Canada's Selection Camp, he'll be looking to pull ahead. Jakub Brabenec was named to the Czech Republic's World Junior Camp roster and looks to build on his strong rookie campaign before making his departure. Brabenec has recorded nine goals and 29 points in 27 games this season.

Oliver Satny will get the start in goal tonight for the Isles. Satny is currently tied for the third-best GAA in the league and will look to give the Isles a solid performance in hopes of guiding them back into the win column. Now with a record of 18-7-2-0, the Islanders will want to snatch up as many points they can with only four games remaining including tonight before the Christmas break. So far this season, the Sea Dogs and Islanders have met four times with the Isles claiming victory in three of the bouts. The Islanders will be hungry to keep dominating the season series and bounce back strong and come out fast when the puck drops at 7 pm tonight.
