DES MOINES - With the season opener quickly approaching, the Iowa Barnstormers will look to write a new chapter and start their eastern conference slate strong.

The Iowa Barnstormers (0-0) will start their season away from home for the tenth consecutive year when they travel to the Badger State to take on the Green Bay Blizzard (0-1) Saturday at 6:05 pm at the Resch Center.

After leading 27-13 at half time, the Blizzard coughed up 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and were unable to capture their season opening win, falling 44-40 to the Massachusetts Pirates (1-0) Sunday.

Second-year quarterback Max Meylor threw for 143 yards, two touchdowns and a game-sealing interception in the loss while also leading the team in rushing with 35 yards and adding three touchdowns on the ground. First-year wide receiver Lowell Patron led the team with 52 yards and scored one of Green Bay's two touchdowns through the air.

The Barnstormers were hit with the injury bug last season, notably capped off with quarterback Darius-James Peterson suffering a season-ending leg injury in the second game of the season, coincidentally against the Blizzard. Peterson had finished fifth in the Indoor Football League in passing yards with 2,004 while also racking up a league-leading 892 rushing yards during his rookie season in 2022.

Despite the Blizzard coming out of the 2023 season just under .500 at 7-8 and playing close games against the Barnstormers the last three seasons, Iowa has not beat the Blizzard on the road since 2019 and are 3-7 in the last ten matchups.
