Broadcast Information

Tonight's game can be heard live on the Charleston RiverDogs broadcast network online at riverdogs.com.

Intimidating Starters: Euclides Leyer, 22, in coming off consecutive losses but pitched well in his last outing, allowing a run on three hits over 5 1/3 innings at Augusta in the first game of a doubleheader April 21. This is his fifth start of the season, equaling the number of starts he made with Kannapolis in 2012 after a late-season promotion from Advanced Rookie Bristol. In three road starts, Leyer is 1-1 with a 2.12 ERA (4 ER/17 IP), limiting batting to a .234 average.

Charleston's Chucker: Cesar Vargas, 21, makes his fifth start of the season and second at home. He earned his lone win of the season in his only other home start, quieting Rome to the tune of two runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings. He is coming off his roughest outing of the season, giving up seven runs (six earned) to Hickory over 4 2/3 innings in a losing effort on April 21. Vargas has struck out 20 batters in 20 innings while walking seven, and opponents are batting .205 against him with right-handed hitters struggling at a .167 clip (7-42).

Coats' Streak Snapped: Outfielder Jason Coats saw his 12-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-5 night against Rome on Thursday. During his streak, he batted .478 (22-46) with six doubles and eight RBI. The 12-game streak that lasted from April 12-24 is the longest by an Intimidators player this season (one ahead of Michael Marjama's 11-gamer) and is tied for the second-longest in the SAL this season (Delmarva's Christian Walker, 13 games, April 6-19). Coats is now batting a team-best .345 (29-84) on the season, 12th-best in the SAL.

Strong-Beach: Former Long Beach State Dirtbag Michael Marjama went 3-4 on Thursday with a pair of RBI-doubles and two runs scored. It was his second 3-hit game and fifth multi-hit game of the season. Marjama's two-double game was the sixth by an Intimidator this season. Marjama's only other 2-RBI game this season came April 13 against Hickory.

Double Trouble: Intimidators hitters logged five doubles on Thursday, equaling the most by the team this season. Kannapolis had two 5-double games in the season's opening series at Lakewood. The Intimidators have 41 doubles on the season, tied for 3rd-most in the SAL behind Savannah (48) & West Virginia (44).

Leaving 'em Loaded: Kannapolis left a season-high 13 on base in Thursday's 8-6 loss to Rome. The Intimidators twice left 12 on base earlier this season, most recently on April 13 against Hickory.

Alive After Five or a Dive: Before Thursday, Kannapolis was 9-0 when leading after five innings, but the Braves rallied in the eighth to tag the Intimidators with a loss. Kannapolis is now 9-1 when leading after the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. When Kannapolis trails after five innings, the team is 0-9.

Heisler Going Higher: Centerfielder Adam Heisler has been promoted to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem, the second Intimidator promoted this season (Jason Van Skike). Heisler went 1-3 Wednesday to reach base safely in all 19 games he played for Kannapolis, tying Augusta's Matt Duffy for the longest streak in the SAL this season. Heisler hit safely in eight straight games before this promotion and is batting .324 (22-68) with a home run, nine RBI and 15 runs scored.

Roster Moves: Outfielder Kyle Robinson joins the Intimidators today from Extended Spring, replacing Rangel Ravelo who was placed on the DL, retroactive to April 23. Last season, Robinson split the year between Kannapolis and Advanced Rookie Great Falls, batting .297 with 19 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 47 RBI in 59 games.

Kannapolis made four roster moves Thursday. In addition to sending Heisler to Winston-Salem, the Intimidators received pitcher Storm Throne as well as outfielder Ruben Sierra Jr. from extending spring. Relief pitcher Michael Gunter was released after four appearances with Kannapolis this season.
