PREVIEW: After three losses to Savannah (the first time the Shorebirds have been swept this season), the Shorebirds travel to Greenville for four games. The Shorebirds have also lost three in a row for the first time this season. The Sand Gnats outscored the Shorebirds 25-6 during the three-game series. The Shorebirds are in second place in the Northern Division, two games back of Hickory (Rangers).
HUTTER ON A TEAR: Joel Hutter has hit safely in five straight games (10-for-20, .500). Hutter has ten multi-hit games in 20 games played. He ranks third in the league in batting average (.375), second in hits (30) and 11th in on-base percentage (.414).
TOP BATTING AVERAGE: The Shorebirds are batting .281 as a team this year, tops in the South Atlantic League. The Shorebirds have recorded ten or more hits ten times this season. They rank second in the league in total hits (200, 9.5 per game).
WALKER, PRICE AT FLOUR FIELD: Christian Walker and Matt Price played for South Carolina for three years. They played in five total games at Flour Field with the Gamecocks and went 4-1. The Gamecocks played annual games at the Drive's home field against Clemson and Furman.
19 GAME ON-BASE FOR WALKER: Christian Walker extended his 19-game on-base streak last night with a 1-for-4 against the Sand Gnats. He has hit safely in 17 of 20 games this season. Walker ranks eighth in the league in batting average (.361), eighth in hits (26), tied for 13th in RBIs (14) and ninth in on-base percentage (.429).
STRUGGLED WITH RISP IN LAST SERIES: In three games against the Sand Gnats, the Shorebirds scored six runs. They went 3-for-24 over three games with runners in scoring position. The Shorebirds had just one two-out RBI in the series and just four total extra base hits.
